What is an IUD?

An intrauterine device (IUD) is a highly effective and long-lasting form of birth control that can be inserted into the uterus. IUDs are a popular choice for many women because they are more than 99% effective at preventing pregnancy. It does not require daily or weekly attention like some other forms of birth control and can last for 5 years. An IUD (hormonal) provides an excellent form of contraception with added advantages.

When you visit our clinic for your preliminary consultation, it will be conducted by our experienced and specialized team of Physicians. How does an IUD work?

IUDs primarily work by preventing sperm from fertilizing an egg. Depending on the type, they may also release hormones to further prevent pregnancy.

Are there different types of IUDs?

How long do IUDs last?

How is an IUD inserted?

Is getting an IUD painful?

Some women may experience discomfort during insertion, similar to menstrual cramps. However, the discomfort is typically brief and manageable. Your healthcare provider can provide pain relief options if needed.

Can IUDs be removed?

How soon after IUD removal can I get pregnant?

Fertility usually returns immediately after IUD removal. Some women may conceive within days, while others may take a few months to resume normal fertility.

Will my partner be able to feel the IUD during intercourse?

Most partners cannot feel the IUD during intercourse. The strings of the IUD, which are left outside the cervix, may be felt occasionally, but they typically soften over time.

Does insurance cover the cost of an IUD?

Can IUDs protect against sexually transmitted infections (STIs)?

Can IUDs be used while breastfeeding?
